To the Trade
Ever scanned a magazine and noticed ads featuring fantastic things for the home you can never actually find in a store? Read the fine print and you may find these items are offered ‘to the trade’ only. This phrase means that the incredible fabric or sensational wingback chair advertised is not sold directly to the public, rather strictly through licensed designers and decorators. We asked area designers to recommend a ‘to the trade’ item that they not only sell, but also really admire.
Margo’s
For a fine example of just how important the little details are, look at all of the little details in this handcrafted, antique dory wreath. Cape Cod Interiors, Inc.
Proof positive that the ‘Brighton Stripe’, by Classic Cloth, is a quality classic; it’s made in Scotland by the same mill that weaves kilts for the royal family. Using the centuries old ‘waterbag weave’ process, this fabric is so tightly woven, it can hold water. It is ideal for both upholstery and drapery; refined and yet durable, perfect for the Cape Cod way of life. 78 Route 6A, Orleans; 508-240-0880.
Elizabeth Williams
Interior Design
Fine decorating doesn’t stop with the big things. Fight the temptation to assume that once the walls are painted, the windows dressed and the large pieces in place that the task is done. This hand-painted porcelain tabletop lamp by Wildwood Lamps from Elizabeth Williams, offering layers of interest with its silk shade and nickel-plated finial, is the perfect finishing touch. 45 Main St., West Harwich; 508-432-7900.
